We know being a part of a family managing a chronic illness or disability is challenging. At times even overwhelming whether dealing with a new diagnosis or managing the different life stages throughout the process. Building Healthier America will be here for you within your own local community, but appreciate the resources available to all at the national level. Our goal is to become the site families turn to when in need.
Our objective is to inspire cooperation between our families and the educators, healthcare providers and human services organizations they work with at the local level. We want to hear from all on the resources you believe should be here. The list should include resources for families with children managing chronic illness and disability including the following: asthma, autism, blindness, cancer, cerebral palsy, cystic fibrosis, diabetes, Down syndrome, hearing loss, mental health challenges, muscular dystrophy, neurological disorders, sensory impairment, sickle cell anemia as well as other conditions based on the needs of our communities. We can’t wait to hear from you!
We found the focus of many organizations has often been geared to families with younger children managing chronic illness and disability. There has been a lack of resources for families who are responsible for the primary care and support of adult-aged children. Building Healthier America’s mission is to serve all, creating community for all our families at the local level…including those whose adult-children are a part of family daily life and management. If you are part of family caring with an adult-aged child managing a chronic illness or disability, we’d love to hear from you and have your input on what you’d like to see from us.
Families managing children with chronic illness or disability have commonalities in how to effectively navigate the medical, educational, and human services systems when it comes to the care of their child. We have a growing database of FAQs and answers our users have told us they find helpful.
